500 Hour Massage Therapy Program
Anatomy & Physiology (175 hours)
To become a truly knowledgeable body worker, one must know the
anatomy (structure) and physiology (function) of the body.
Subjects will include the organization of the body, cells,
tissues and membranes, the integumentary system (the skin and
related structures), the skeletal system, muscular system,
nervous system, special senses, digestive system, circulatory
system and more. This course teaches you how to understand the
body so you can interact knowledgeably and professionally with
other health care providers, when necessary for the well-being
of your client.
Massage Technique (225 hours)
Classroom knowledge is not enough when you are responsible for
your client’s care through massage therapy. Hands-on training
is essential! While Swedish technique is the main focus of our
hands-on training, other modalities are introduced to provide
you with a well-rounded education any potential employer would
value. We give you the training to be more than technically
good. We teach you how to incorporate being technically correct
with the ability to adapt your massage, customizing each
session for your client. After all, every person who comes to
see you is an individual and as a therapist, you need to know
how to treat them as such. One size massage does not fit all!
Hydro, Helio and Electrotherapy (25 hours)
Hydrotherapy (the application of water in any of its three
forms to the body for therapeutic purposes), heliotherapy
(light and/or color therapy) and electrotherapy (use of
electrical apparatus such as vibrating massage equipment for
therapeutic purposes) are all compliments to massage therapy
treatment, which may be indicated in an overall therapeutic
treatment plan for your client. Learn how each one of these
adds to the client’s care and when each is indicated in
addition to massage therapy.
Hygiene and Infection Control (25 hours)
Proper hygiene practices protects both you and your family as
well as your client. Learn how to practice massage therapy
safely and avoid cross-contamination between you, the client
and others.
Law, Business and Ethics (25 hours)
You’ve learned how to be a fantastic practitioner, now you need
to learn the boundaries within which you will practice. AR
state law is thoroughly reviewed as well as professional ethics
and business practices. There’s more to running a business than
just hanging out your shingle! Learn how to negotiate the
pitfalls of insurance, taxes and licensing in addition to your
massage license.
Related (25 hours)
Special subjects related to massage will be covered by this
area. We may have a guest speaker on a subject of interest,
learn a new spa technique, or attend a sports event to see how
massage and athletics go together. The possibilities are
endless and will vary with each class depending on
opportunities open to us at the time. |
